Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, objects to drafting a Single Course Book in History for the Post-Soviet Countries
Asked by "Rada" television channel about the elimination of events of the Great Patriotic War in school and textbooks for higher educational establishments, V. Lytvyn stated that: "It is impossible to discuss the disputable issues in the textbooks." According to his words, elimination of the historical events in textbooks is supposed to be organized in such a way that each pupil or student "knows his/her history and nation that laid a basis for the existence and development of the future generations."
V. Lytvyn named it inadmissible to pass the resolution on elaboration of the single textbook on history for the whole post-soviet space. "Historical investigation can be conducted due to the mutual efforts of our countries scientists, but history textbooks is own business of a separate country", he emphasised.
The Head of the Parliament also stated that "the truth about the war is always hard and it has been always used for the speculations on the moods of certain part of citizens or for the purpose of humiliation of the political opponents."
According to V. Lytvyn, scientists are supposed to investigate the events of that period, opening new documents, balancing between the evidences supplied by the participants and politicians are not supposed to play with the people´ s mood for the political dividends.
According to him, it is necessary to honor these people and remain the memory they used to work with, fight and build the state.
Asked by the Ukrainian achievements after the Great Victory, V. Lytvyn stated that in territorial dimension it is "territorial integrity and borders we have for today." "Without Great Victory it would be hard to imagine our national completion and unity as a nation and state", Volodymyr Lytvyn is convinced.
